WELCOME INTERVIEW

The first session consists of a welcome interview for about 1 hour to share how the loss is being experienced (needs, concerns and coping (everything that is being done to deal with the loss).

This space also provides initial advice, as well as the desirability of initiating an accompanying process. In addition, information is provided on the content and rate of the service, so that the user can evaluate the decision according to the commitment and motivation of departure.

COUNSELING PROCESS

Depending on the needs of each person and based on the initial assessment, it is proposed to start a support process that is organized in fortnightly or weekly sessions.

ORIENTATION

The main objective is to facilitate a healthy evolution of the mourning process, based on respect of the rhythm of each person and the security of the relationship that we are forging throughout the process of accompaniment.

ISSUES

Depending on the person’s condition and time, various issues can be addressed, such as:

  • respect and legitimize the need to express or not express emotions (not wanting to talk about it, needing to cry throughout the session, etc.)
  • provide resources and strategies for regulation (in the early stages)
  • to ensure the basic operation to face the day to day in the familiar, labor or relational scopes.
  • review relationships with people in the environment
  • attend to unmet relational needs (e.g., when the need to participate in the ritual is denied)
  • elaborate elements on the circumstances of death (communication of the news, perception of avoidability, perception of suffering, non-anticipation, among others).
  • facilitate integration
  • managing the pain window of tolerance
  • promote connection strategies (in the most advanced moments of mourning)
  • elaborate possible concurrent or secondary losses (loss of purchasing power, perception of loss of availability of the environment, for example).
DURATION

The length of the accompanying process is variable, as it depends on multiple factors. There are people who follow the accompaniment sessions for a few months and others who may need more time (between 1 and 1 year and a half).

INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS

Sessions are individual, but occasionally a family member may be invited whenever appropriate for the process.

CONDUCTION AND FORM OF THE SESSIONS

Face-to-face or via videoconference depending on the needs and availability of the user.
Face-to-face sessions take place in Barcelona.
